On American Soil: How Justice Became a Casualty of World War II

Seattle journalist Jack Hamann stumbled onto "a story" 18 years ago about an Italian soldier dying while in a prisoner of war camp in Seattle.

After dozens of interviews and years of research, journalist Jack Hamann uncovered previously classified documents which shed alarming new light on the conduct of key officials and the behavior of soldiers, both American and Italian. This book weaves a compelling narrative of the events of 1944 at a remote army base at Fort Lawton in Seattle that culminated in the largest army court martial of WWII and the lynching of an Italian prisoner of war.

The previously classified court documents were scanned at our San Francisco scanning center and have been made available for the general public in this collection.
